About Me

My name is Nick Jackson.

I began practising mindfulness in 2017 with a course in mindfulness-based stress relief.  The course helped me to deal with a significant life event but, more than that, it made me more aware of patterns of thinking and behaving which had been restricting my life.  The power of coming into the present moment allowed me to experience anew the beauty of the world and perceive my place in it more clearly.

I feel a strong urge to share this learning and the gentle techniques which allow it, with others so they too can benefit from this life-changing awareness.

For me, mindfulness is not about getting new knowledge but about becoming aware of what I have always known and it’s less about getting to a better place than appreciating the place I’m already in.  That’s it, in a nutshell.  But don’t take my word for it, find out for yourself…

Professional Experience and Training

Mindfulness

I have been training as a mindfulness teacher since 2021.  I am a student of Bangor University and take part in an ongoing programme of training events, retreats and regular supervision sessions.

Since 2021 I have been running drop-in meditation sessions for gay men; I have delivered mindfulness courses for gay men online and an 8 week face to face course for LGBTQIA participants for Norfolk and Waveney MIND.

Ecotherapy

I am a director of Ecotherapy East a Community Interest Company based in Bramfield in Suffolk.  I help to run community days with groups of volunteers, day retreats and other nature-based activities.  Follow the link to find out more about ecotherapy.

I have also co-facilitated forest bathing/nature walks for Norfolk and Waveney MIND.

Adult Education

From 1996-2012 I worked as an adult literacy tutor for Norfolk Adult Education.  I taught groups and 1:1 in community centres, high schools and workplaces.  I worked with adults of all ages including vulnerable adults and teenagers.

Certificate in Adult Education

Mental Health

As well as working with vulnerable adults in the community I also delivered 1:1 and group sessions in literacy at the Norvic Clinic (forensic psychiatric clinic) and Hellesdon Hospital in Norwich, giving me extensive experience of working with adults with mental health issues.

Interests and Specialist Training

I have a particular interest in trauma sensitivity and attended 2 training events with David Treleaven in 2022

I attended 1:1 mindfulness training with the Mindfulness Network in October 2024

I have a special interest in mindfulness in nature and regularly take part in local events with MIND as well as Ecotherapy East.  I see engagement with the natural world as a key to unlocking the full potential of mindfulness to enrich, enliven and bring joy into our lives.

I am supportive of the LGBTQIA community.  I offer twice-weekly drop-in meditation sessions for gay men and have co-facilitated weekend retreats for gay men with the Edward Carpenter Community.
